I'm not ok

Feeling any type of emotional pain sucks. Emotions come after we have attached thoughts to a situation and thoughts are hard to manage. But this is the challenge daily isn't it? Trying to navigate life while going through rough emotional patches.
Any time I've experienced emotional discomfort I discovered that there's one thing I always did that got me on the road to healing that much faster:
I ADMITTED TO MYSELF I WAS HURTING.
I can see why you might say: "Umm, didn't you say last week to choose joy?? What's with this admitting to hurting thing?"
Let me explain.
In a culture where we're forced to show that our lives are perfect and everything's "just fine", it's impossible to even think about showing that we're in any type of discomfort so we try to hide our pain.
I realized I had to admit to myself: "No, I 'm not ok" in order to be able to heal.
Because that's step one right? Admitting to something.
I didn't like it at all, it's a hard thing to do, but it was crucial because it took the pressure off of pretending I was fine.
Since that pressure didn't exist anymore, it meant that I had given myself permission and the internal space to feel what I was truly experiencing emotionally.
And what a relief that was.
Being truly happy doesn't require that we're happy all the time, but it does require that we're honest and authentic. Towards ourselves.
